Stephen Curry won his first NBA Most Valuable Player award in 2015. He received the honor for the 2014–15 season, when he led the Golden State Warriors to the league’s best record and their first championship in 40 years.
Curry averaged 23.8 points, 7.7 assists, and 4.3 rebounds per game during that regular season. His three-point shooting, ball handling, and ability to create offense from long range made him the central figure in Golden State’s fast-paced system. He received 119 first-place votes out of 130 from the voting panel.
The award was the first of two consecutive MVPs for Curry. He won again in 2016 after leading the Warriors to a then-record 73 regular-season victories, becoming the first unanimous MVP in NBA history. A common mix-up is confusing the award year with the season: the 2015 MVP recognized the 2014–15 season, while his second MVP was awarded in 2016 for 2015–16.
