Starbucks removed the words from its circular siren logo in 2011.
The change accompanied the company’s 40th anniversary and marked a major redesign of its visual identity. The updated logo retained the green siren image but removed the surrounding “Starbucks Coffee” wording, allowing the symbol to stand alone.
Earlier versions of the logo had used a brown design and included the company name around the siren. Starbucks progressively simplified the mark as the brand expanded beyond selling roasted coffee into beverages, food, tea, and packaged products.
The 2011 redesign is often confused with the 1987 logo update, when Starbucks changed the logo’s color scheme after Howard Schultz acquired the company. The 2011 change was specifically the removal of the surrounding text, not the creation of the original siren image.
