In what year did Scorsese's 'Goodfellas' release?

The story behind the answer

Martin Scorsese's Goodfellas was released in 1990.

The film premiered at the 47th Venice International Film Festival on September 9, 1990, where Scorsese won the Silver Lion for Best Director. Warner Bros. released it in the United States on September 18, followed by a wide North American release on September 21.

Goodfellas adapts Nicholas Pileggi's 1985 nonfiction book Wiseguy and follows Henry Hill, portrayed by Ray Liotta, from his teenage fascination with organized crime through his life among New York gangsters. Robert De Niro plays Jimmy Conway, while Joe Pesci plays Tommy DeVito.

The year is sometimes confused with 1991 because the film's awards attention continued into the following year. At the 1991 Academy Awards, Pesci won Best Supporting Actor, while the film received six nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director. In 2000, the Library of Congress selected Goodfellas for preservation in the National Film Registry as culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.
