Rembrandt died in Amsterdam in 1669.

He died on 4 October 1669 and was buried in an unmarked grave in the Westerkerk. His death came after the deaths of his partner Hendrickje Stoffels in 1663 and his son Titus in 1668, leaving him with few immediate family members.

Rembrandt’s final years were financially difficult, but he remained artistically productive. Late works such as Self-Portrait with Two Circles and The Jewish Bride demonstrate his continuing interest in character, texture, gesture, and emotional intensity.

Because Rembrandt’s grave was unmarked, its exact location is not known. A memorial stone was installed in the Westerkerk centuries later. His reputation continued to grow after his death, and he is now regarded as one of the central figures of Dutch and European art.
