Pokémon X and Y received a simultaneous worldwide release in 2013.
The games launched on October 12, 2013, for Nintendo 3DS in Japan, North America, Europe, and Australia. This was a major change for the main series, whose earlier games usually reached Japan before other regions. A shared launch date reduced spoilers and let fans around the world begin the Kalos adventure together.
Pokémon X and Y introduced Generation VI and the Kalos region, which is inspired by France. They also added Fairy-type Pokémon, Mega Evolution, character customization, and fully polygonal 3D presentation for the main series.
The year can be confused with 2012, when Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 were released in several markets, or 2014, when some related Pokémon titles appeared. The worldwide launch of X and Y itself occurred in 2013.
