In what year did Pokémon Sword and Shield release worldwide for Nintendo Switch?

The story behind the answer

Pokémon Sword and Shield released worldwide for Nintendo Switch in 2019.

The games launched on November 15, 2019, as the first main-series Pokémon role-playing games designed specifically for Nintendo’s hybrid console. Game Freak developed them, while Nintendo and The Pokémon Company published them.

Sword and Shield introduced the Galar region, which draws inspiration from the United Kingdom. They also added features such as Dynamax and Gigantamax transformations, allowing certain Pokémon to become enormous during battles and gain special moves or forms.

The games are sometimes confused with Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee!, which appeared on Switch in 2018 but are remakes with gameplay influenced by Pokémon Yellow and Pokémon GO. Sword and Shield were the new core-generation games that followed those releases.
