In what year did Pinterest launch Buyable Pins?

The story behind the answer

Pinterest launched Buyable Pins in 2015, introducing a way for users to purchase selected products directly within Pinterest. The company announced the feature on June 2, 2015, and began rolling it out to iPhone and iPad users later that month.

Buyable Pins were built on Pinterest’s existing Rich Pins, which could display extra product information such as prices and availability. A blue buy button allowed shoppers to choose options such as color or size and complete checkout without leaving Pinterest. Apple Pay and credit-card payments were supported, while Stripe and Braintree helped process transactions.

The initial launch involved merchants using Shopify and Demandware. Pinterest later expanded the program to platforms including BigCommerce, Magento, and IBM Commerce. By October 2015, Pinterest said the service had reached 60 million Buyable Pins. The feature is often confused with ordinary product Pins: regular product Pins may link to a retailer, while Buyable Pins were specifically designed for in-app purchasing.
