In what year did Pablo Picasso receive the Lenin Peace Prize?

The story behind the answer

Pablo Picasso received the Lenin Peace Prize in 1962.

The International Lenin Peace Prize was a Soviet award for people judged to have strengthened international peace. It was established in 1949 as the International Stalin Prize for Strengthening Peace Among Peoples. After Nikita Khrushchev’s denunciation of Stalin during the period of de-Stalinization, the award was renamed the Lenin Peace Prize in 1956.

Picasso received the prize as an internationally prominent artist and an active supporter of communist and peace campaigns. He joined the French Communist Party in 1944 and used his art in political contexts, most famously with *Guernica* and his widely reproduced dove imagery associated with the peace movement.

The 1962 award was shared with several other recipients, including poet Faiz Ahmad Faiz, Ghanaian leader Kwame Nkrumah and Hungarian politician István Dobi. The prize was not equivalent to the Nobel Peace Prize: it was a Soviet-administered award, generally presented to multiple people in a given year.
