Mexico City organized its real Day of the Dead parade in 2016, after the fictional parade appeared in *Spectre*.
The first official Mexico City parade took place on October 29, 2016. Authorities organized it partly in response to the attention generated by the Bond film and partly as a way to promote Mexican cultural heritage. The event featured floats, performers and enormous calavera-inspired figures, transforming the film’s imagined spectacle into a public celebration.
This date is sometimes confused with the 2015 release of *Spectre*, because the movie’s parade comes first in the story of the phenomenon. The film did not document an existing annual Mexico City parade. The actual event began the following year and drew roughly 250,000 attendees, becoming a major part of the city’s modern Day of the Dead calendar.
