In what year did Marie Curie die?

The story behind the answer

Marie Curie died in 1934. She died on 4 July at the Sancellemoz sanatorium in Passy, France, aged 66, after suffering from aplastic anaemia, a condition involving severe damage to the bone marrow.

Curie's illness is widely associated with her long-term exposure to ionising radiation. During her pioneering research, the dangers of radioactive materials were not yet understood, and laboratory safety practices were far less developed than they are today. She also worked with mobile X-ray units near battlefields during the First World War.

Curie had spent decades studying radioactivity, discovering polonium and radium and winning Nobel Prizes in Physics and Chemistry. Her death helped make her life an enduring example of both scientific achievement and the risks faced by early radiation researchers.
