Levi Strauss & Co. returned to the public stock market in 2019.
The company's initial public offering took place on March 21, 2019, on the New York Stock Exchange. It sold shares under the ticker symbol LEVI, bringing the denim company back to public trading after more than three decades as a privately held business.
Levi Strauss & Co. had previously been publicly traded, but the Haas family took it private in 1985. The 2019 offering therefore represented a return to the market rather than the company's first-ever public listing.
The IPO attracted attention because Levi Strauss & Co. was one of the world's oldest and most recognizable apparel brands. Its public-company status is distinct from the separate question of which stock exchange lists its shares: the exchange is the NYSE, while LEVI is the ticker.
