Answer
1519
In what year did Leonardo da Vinci die? Leonardo da Vinci died in 1519. He died on 2 May at Clos Lucé, a manor house near Amboise in France, at the age of 67.
Leonardo had spent his final years in France after accepting an invitation from King Francis I. He held the honorary position of “First Painter, Engineer and Architect to the King,” and continued studying, drawing, and organizing his notebooks even though he produced few major paintings during this period.
His final French residence, Clos Lucé, stood near the royal Château d'Amboise. Leonardo was buried at the Collegiate Church of Saint Florentin, but the church was later damaged and demolished, making the exact location of his remains uncertain.
A famous story claims that Francis I held Leonardo in his arms as he died. That scene became popular in later paintings, but historians consider it doubtful because the king was probably elsewhere. Leonardo's death in 1519 also marks the end of a life that connected Renaissance art, anatomy, engineering, architecture, and scientific observation.
