Christian Dior launched the Miss Dior fragrance in 1947.
The perfume appeared alongside Dior’s first haute couture collection, which was presented in Paris in February 1947. Dior’s fragrance was intended to complete the fashion-house experience by giving the new label a recognizable scent as well as a distinctive silhouette.
The name Miss Dior is often linked to Dior’s younger sister, Catherine Dior, whose nickname was Miss Dior. However, the fragrance’s launch year is 1947, the same year the House of Dior was founded and its debut collection introduced the New Look.
Miss Dior has since remained one of Dior’s best-known fragrance names, although the formula, packaging, and advertising have changed over time. It should not be confused with later Dior launches such as Diorissimo, introduced in 1956, or J’adore, introduced in 1999.
