In what year did BMW launch the i3?
Answer
2013
Answer
2013
BMW launched the i3 in 2013.
The production i3 was officially unveiled on 29 July 2013, and series production for retail customers began in September 2013 at BMW’s Leipzig plant in Germany. Its European market launch followed in November, with the first retail deliveries taking place in Germany.
The i3 was the first mass-produced zero-emissions vehicle from BMW and the first model from the company’s BMW i sub-brand. It stood out for its rear-mounted electric motor, rear-wheel drive, underfloor battery and extensive use of carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic in the passenger cell.
A common mix-up is 2014: that was the i3’s model year in some markets, including North America, and the year it received major awards. BMW’s production launch, however, was in 2013. Production eventually ended in 2022 after roughly 250,000 i3s had been built.
