Banksy’s Walled Off Hotel opened in Bethlehem in 2017.
The hotel opened in March 2017 in Bethlehem, near the Israeli West Bank barrier. Banksy presented it as a functioning hotel and an art project, filling its rooms and public areas with works addressing the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the history surrounding the barrier.
The name is a pun on the Waldorf hotel brand and the wall beside the building. Its rooms were designed with views toward the barrier, while the building also included a gallery and museum explaining aspects of the local political and cultural history.
The Walled Off Hotel is often confused with Dismaland, Banksy’s temporary theme park in Weston-super-Mare. Dismaland opened in 2015 and closed after a short run; the Walled Off Hotel was designed as a continuing hospitality and exhibition venue.
