Auguste Rodin married Rose Beuret in 1917.
Beuret was Rodin’s longtime companion and the mother of his only acknowledged child, Auguste-Eugène Beuret. Their relationship began in the 1860s, long before Rodin achieved international fame. She also modeled for him and appeared in works connected with his artistic life.
The couple married on 29 January 1917 at their home in Meudon. The marriage took place only months before both died: Beuret died in February, and Rodin died in November of the same year.
Because Camille Claudel was an important collaborator and former lover, biographies sometimes blur the distinction between Rodin’s artistic partnership with Claudel and his long domestic relationship with Beuret. They were different relationships, and Beuret remained Rodin’s partner for most of his adult life.
