In what month and year did The Pokémon Company adopt its current name?
Answer
October 2000
Answer
October 2000
The Pokémon Company adopted its current name in October 2000. Before that, the organization was called Pokémon Center Co., Ltd.
Pokémon Center Co., Ltd. was founded in 1998 by Nintendo, Creatures, and Game Freak to manage Pokémon Center merchandise stores in Japan. As the franchise expanded beyond retail, the organization needed a broader role.
The company was reorganized and renamed The Pokémon Company in October 2000. Its responsibilities grew to include brand management, licensing, marketing, publishing, and coordination across Pokémon games, cards, animation, films, and merchandise.
The 1998 founding date and the 2000 renaming are both important but answer different questions. The Pokémon Company International was created later to manage operations in territories outside Asia, so it should not be confused with the original Japanese company.
