In what city was Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart born?

The story behind the answer

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born in Salzburg.

He was born on 27 January 1756 at Getreidegasse 9, a house in Salzburg that is now preserved as a museum. At the time, Salzburg was the capital of the independent ecclesiastical state known as the Archbishopric of Salzburg, within the Holy Roman Empire. It became part of modern Austria later.

Mozart was the youngest surviving child of Leopold Mozart and Anna Maria Mozart. His father was a musician, composer, and influential teacher who began training Wolfgang and his sister Maria Anna, known as Nannerl. Mozart showed extraordinary ability from an early age and began touring European courts as a child prodigy.

A common mix-up is Vienna, where Mozart spent much of his mature career and died in 1791. Prague was also closely associated with his operatic success, especially Don Giovanni, but neither city was his birthplace.
