In what city was the 1957 Treaty of Rome signed?
Answer
Rome
Answer
Rome
The 1957 Treaty of Rome was signed in Rome.
The treaties were signed on 25 March 1957 at the Palazzo dei Conservatori on Rome’s Capitoline Hill. One established the European Economic Community, while another created the European Atomic Energy Community, commonly called Euratom. They entered into force on 1 January 1958.
The European Economic Community aimed to build a common market among Belgium, France, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and West Germany. It formed a foundation for later European integration and eventually contributed to the development of today’s European Union.
The Treaty of Rome is sometimes discussed as if it were a single document, but the 1957 signing covered two treaties. It should also not be confused with the 1992 Maastricht Treaty, which formally established the European Union, or the 2007 Treaty of Rome anniversary declaration.
