In what city is the Pro Football Hall of Fame located?

The story behind the answer

The Pro Football Hall of Fame is located in Canton, Ohio.

Canton was chosen because the American Professional Football Association—the organization that became the NFL—was founded there on September 17, 1920. The city was also home to the Canton Bulldogs, one of the strongest early professional football teams. Jim Thorpe, an iconic athlete and future Hall of Famer, played for the Bulldogs beginning in 1915.

The NFL awarded Canton the Hall of Fame site in 1961. Construction began the following year, and the Hall officially opened on September 7, 1963. Since then, it has expanded from a modest museum into a major football history and visitor complex.

Cleveland is a common wrong answer because it is another prominent Ohio football city and home of the Cleveland Browns. Green Bay and Indianapolis are also associated with famous NFL teams, but neither city houses the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The annual Enshrinement ceremony and Hall of Fame Game are held in Canton as well.
