In Venezuelan Christmas tradition, the early-morning Masses held from 16 to 24 December are called Misa de Aguinaldo.
Misa de Aguinaldo means “Aguinaldo Mass.” These nine services take place during the novena leading up to Christmas and are traditionally celebrated before dawn. They combine Catholic worship with seasonal music and community gatherings.
The services are especially associated with Venezuela, where families and communities may attend together and enjoy festive foods afterward. In some places, people travel to the churches using bicycles, skates, or other informal means as part of local celebrations.
Misa de Aguinaldo is distinct from Misa del Gallo, the Christmas Eve midnight Mass found in many Spanish-speaking Catholic traditions. The defining feature here is the series of nine dawn services before Christmas.
