Nine Inch Nails performed “She’s Gone Away” in Part 8 of Twin Peaks: The Return.

The performance appears during the episode’s highly stylized sequence at the Roadhouse. Trent Reznor and the band perform the song as the episode moves through its unsettling imagery and expands the mythology surrounding the birth of the evil entity later identified as BOB.

Part 8, officially titled “Gotta Light?”, is especially unusual even by Twin Peaks standards. Much of it is presented as a surreal, near-cosmic account of events following the 1945 Trinity nuclear test, rather than as a conventional continuation of the town’s everyday plot.

Other Roadhouse performances in The Return led to frequent mix-ups. “The Pink Room” is associated with David Lynch’s film Fire Walk with Me, while “No Stars” is a different song performed by Rebekah Del Rio in the revival.
