In Twin Peaks: The Return, Laura Dern played Diane Evans.

Diane Evans is introduced as a key figure connected to Dale Cooper’s FBI history. For much of the original series, Diane existed only through Cooper’s recorded messages to an unseen secretary. The revival turns that previously unseen presence into an on-screen character and gives her a major role in the story’s investigation of identity and alternate realities.

Laura Dern had worked with David Lynch on several earlier projects, including Blue Velvet and Wild at Heart. Her casting therefore linked Diane to the director’s wider body of work as well as to Twin Peaks. The revival also uses the name Diane in connection with the mysterious tulpa storyline, so the character’s identity becomes deliberately complicated. Diane Evans is not the same person as Laura Palmer, Audrey Horne, or Teresa Banks, even though the series connects many characters through repeating identities and supernatural forces.
