In the Twelve Labors of Hercules, which lion had an impenetrable hide?
Answer
Nemean Lion
Answer
Nemean Lion
The Nemean Lion had an impenetrable hide in the Twelve Labors of Hercules.
The lion terrorized the region of Nemea, where it attacked people and livestock. Ordinary weapons could not pierce its skin, so Hercules first tried to fight it with his club and arrows. When those weapons failed, he used his great strength to force the lion into a cave and strangled it.
Hercules then needed to remove the hide, which was too tough for normal blades. Ancient accounts say he used one of the lion’s own claws to cut through it. He wore the hide afterward as protective armor, while the lion’s head served as a helmet.
The Nemean Lion is often confused with the Cretan Bull or the Erymanthian Boar, but those were separate creatures connected with other labors. The labor established Hercules’ reputation for solving supernatural problems through both strength and ingenuity.
