In the Twelve Labors of Hercules, which centaur owned the cave where Hercules stayed before capturing the Erymanthian boar?

The story behind the answer

In the Twelve Labors of Hercules, the centaur Pholus owned the cave where Hercules stayed before capturing the Erymanthian boar.

While traveling toward Mount Erymanthus, Hercules visited Pholus, a civilized centaur who lived in a cave. Pholus opened a communal wine jar so the two could share a meal, but the scent attracted other centaurs, who arrived angry and armed.

Hercules fought the attacking centaurs with his arrows and drove them away. The episode connects the Erymanthian boar labor with the wider mythology of the centaurs and explains why Chiron, another famous centaur, is sometimes mentioned in accounts of Hercules’ journey.

Pholus and Chiron are easy to confuse because both are wise or notable centaurs associated with Hercules. Pholus hosted Hercules in his cave during this labor; Chiron was a different centaur, famous as a teacher and healer.
