In the TV series Twin Peaks, which actor portrayed the mysterious killer BOB?

The story behind the answer

Frank Silva portrayed the mysterious killer BOB in the TV series Twin Peaks.

Silva was originally a set decorator on the production, not an actor hired to play a major character. During filming, David Lynch noticed Silva’s distinctive appearance and used him in a brief image reflected in a mirror. That image became the frightening supernatural entity BOB.

Ray Wise played Leland Palmer, BOB’s human host, which is why viewers sometimes confuse Wise with Silva. Silva’s performance was largely physical and expressionistic, helping make BOB memorable despite the character’s limited conventional dialogue.

Silva died in 1995, before Twin Peaks: The Return was produced. The revival therefore used archival material and visual effects to include BOB in its story, while a new entity, Judy-related and connected to the mythology, expanded the supernatural conflict.
