A traditional quinceañera court commonly has fourteen escorts accompanying the honoree.
Together with the quinceañera, the fourteen escorts create a symbolic group of fifteen. The court may participate in the entrance, formal photographs, choreographed presentation, and other public parts of the celebration. In older traditions, the escorts were often boys paired with female attendants, although contemporary courts are more flexible.
The court’s size is a convention rather than an inflexible rule. Families may choose fewer attendants, include different genders, or omit a formal court entirely. This variation is especially common when celebrations are adapted for smaller venues or modern preferences.
The number fourteen should not be confused with the Spanish term for the entire group. The honoree is the central fifteenth member of the traditional arrangement, while the escorts are the companions who accompany her.
