In The Tommyknockers, what is the name of the female protagonist?

In The Tommyknockers, the female protagonist is Bobbi Anderson.

Bobbi—whose full name is Roberta Anderson—is a successful writer of Western fiction living near Haven, Maine. While walking in the woods, she trips over a piece of metal buried in the ground. Her discovery turns out to be part of an ancient alien spacecraft, and the ship's influence begins changing both Bobbi and the people around her.

Bobbi's longtime friend Jim Gardener helps her excavate the spacecraft. Gardener is also a major character, and the novel later shifts much of its attention toward his resistance to the ship's effects. His name is therefore a frequent source of confusion, especially because some summaries call him the book's central character.

The 1987 novel's plot follows the disastrous consequences of Bobbi's discovery: Haven's residents gain extraordinary inventive abilities while losing judgment and humanity. The story was adapted into a 1993 television miniseries, with Marg Helgenberger playing Bobbi Anderson and Jimmy Smits playing Jim Gardener.
