In Only Murders in the Building, the investigating trio lives in the fictional New York apartment building called The Arconia.
The comedy-mystery series follows Charles-Haden Savage, Oliver Putnam and Mabel Mora, who become amateur investigators after a death occurs in their residence. They create a true-crime podcast while interviewing neighbours, examining evidence and uncovering secrets connected with the building. The Arconia serves as both the central setting and an expanding network of suspects.
The series premiered on Hulu in 2021 and stars Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez. The building is fictional, but its grand, prewar Manhattan design reflects the real apartment architecture associated with New York’s Upper West Side. It is sometimes mistaken for The Dakota, the real landmark apartment building best known in popular culture for its connection with John Lennon.
