In the standard Monopoly board game, what is the rent for owning one utility?

The story behind the answer

Owning one utility in the standard Monopoly board game produces rent equal to four times the dice roll.

The two utility properties are Electric Company and Water Works. If a player owns only one of them, the amount owed is four times the number rolled on the dice that brought the visitor there. If the owner controls both utilities, the multiplier rises to ten times the dice roll.

Utilities do not have fixed rent values like colored street properties. Their rent depends on the roll, which means a high movement roll creates a larger payment. A player landing on a utility uses the roll that determined the move, not a separate roll for rent.

The rule is often confused with railroad rent, which is based on the number of railroads owned rather than the dice result.
