In the standard Monopoly board game, a hotel on Park Place costs $200 to build.
Park Place belongs to the dark-blue group with Boardwalk. Its title deed lists a building cost of $200 for each house and hotel, so the same construction price applies when a player upgrades the property from four houses to a hotel. The player must own the complete color group and build evenly.
The building cost is separate from Park Place’s purchase price, mortgage value, and rent schedule. A hotel also requires the player to return the four houses on that property to the bank, subject to the available supply of buildings.
Players sometimes assume the hotel price must be higher because Park Place has one of the game’s largest rents. Monopoly’s construction costs are determined by color group, not by the rent charged at a particular development level. The standard U.S. edition lists $200 for the dark-blue properties.
