In The Shining, what is the name of the remote Colorado hotel where Jack Torrance works?

The story behind the answer

In The Shining, Jack Torrance works at Colorado’s remote Overlook Hotel.

Jack accepts a winter caretaker job at the isolated hotel and moves there with his wife Wendy and son Danny. The building’s seclusion, violent history, and supernatural forces contribute to the family’s growing danger. Danny’s psychic ability, called the shining, lets him perceive aspects of the hotel that adults cannot.

Stanley Kubrick directed the 1980 film, which was adapted from Stephen King’s 1977 novel. Although the film and novel share the Overlook setting and central family, they differ in details and emphasis. The exterior hotel footage was filmed at Timberline Lodge in Oregon, while many interior sets were created at England’s Elstree Studios. Timberline Lodge is therefore associated with the film, but it is not the hotel’s fictional name.
