In the Pandora myth, whom did Pandora marry before opening the famous jar?

The story behind the answer

In the Pandora myth, Pandora married Epimetheus before opening the famous jar.

Epimetheus was a Titan and the brother of Prometheus. His name is commonly interpreted as “afterthought,” contrasting with Prometheus, whose name means “foresight.” In Hesiod’s account, Prometheus warned Epimetheus not to accept a gift from Zeus, but Epimetheus accepted Pandora when she arrived.

Pandora and Epimetheus are presented as a pair in the story of humanity’s troubles. Pandora opened the container after it came into their household, releasing harmful forces into the world. The myth does not describe Epimetheus as opening it himself. Later retellings often call the container a box, although Hesiod described a large storage jar.
