In the Pandora myth, who warns Epimetheus not to accept gifts from Zeus?

The story behind the answer

In the Pandora myth, Prometheus warns Epimetheus not to accept gifts from Zeus. The warning follows Prometheus’s conflict with Zeus over fire and humanity’s fate.

Prometheus understands that Zeus may use a divine gift as punishment for the theft of fire. He therefore tells his brother Epimetheus to reject anything sent from Olympus. Epimetheus does not follow the advice and accepts Pandora, whom the gods send to him.

Hesiod presents this decision as a turning point rather than as an accidental detail. Prometheus’s name is linked with foresight, while Epimetheus’s name suggests thinking afterward. The contrast helps explain the brothers’ roles: one recognizes the danger in advance, and the other understands it only after accepting the gift.
