In the Pandora myth, which Titan’s theft of fire led Zeus to devise a punishment for humanity?

The story behind the answer

In the Pandora myth, Prometheus’s theft of fire led Zeus to devise a punishment for humanity.

Prometheus is a Titan known for helping humans. In the mythic tradition associated with Hesiod, he deceives Zeus in a sacrifice and later steals fire for mortals. Zeus responds by arranging Pandora’s creation and sending her to Epimetheus, bringing destructive troubles into the human world.

Prometheus and Pandora therefore belong to the same chain of events, although their individual stories developed in different literary forms. Prometheus is also famous for the punishment in which Zeus has him bound while an eagle repeatedly feeds on his liver, a detail especially prominent in later traditions.

Atlas and Cronus are also Titans, but neither is the fire thief in this narrative. Prometheus’s name is strongly associated with foresight, while his brother Epimetheus represents afterthought.
