Prometheus was Pandora’s brother-in-law and warned Epimetheus not to accept Zeus’s gift.
Prometheus and Epimetheus were brothers among the Titans, and Epimetheus became Pandora’s husband. Because of that marriage, Prometheus is Pandora’s brother-in-law in the myth’s family relationship. Prometheus is also the figure who steals fire from the gods and gives it to humanity, an act that provokes Zeus’s punishment.
Hesiod connects Pandora’s arrival with that punishment. Prometheus’s warning shows his foresight, while Epimetheus’s acceptance illustrates the contrasting meaning of his name, “afterthought.” Prometheus is sometimes mistakenly described as Pandora’s father or creator, but Hesiod attributes Pandora’s construction to the gods collectively, with Hephaestus shaping her from earth and other deities contributing gifts.
