In the Pandora myth, which Titan warned Epimetheus to reject gifts from Zeus?

The story behind the answer

In the Pandora myth, Prometheus warned Epimetheus to reject gifts from Zeus.

Prometheus was a Titan known for intelligence and foresight. In Hesiod’s account, he understood that Zeus’s gift to humanity could bring danger, so he told his brother Epimetheus not to accept anything from the Olympian ruler. Epimetheus ignored the warning and accepted Pandora.

Pandora’s arrival is linked to Zeus’s punishment of humanity after Prometheus stole fire and gave it to people. The story therefore connects two famous myths: the theft of fire and the release of suffering into the world.

The brothers’ names create a deliberate contrast. Prometheus is associated with thinking ahead, whereas Epimetheus is associated with thinking afterward. Some later retellings simplify the story into a direct warning about a box, although Hesiod’s original account calls the container a pithos, or large storage jar.
