Answer
Stealing fire
Answer
Stealing fire
In the Pandora myth, Prometheus’s theft of fire caused Zeus to create Pandora as a punishment for humanity.
Prometheus is a Titan associated with foresight and with aiding humankind. In Hesiod’s account, he deceives Zeus during a sacrifice and later steals fire for mortals. Fire gives humans an important advantage, including the ability to cook food and develop crafts, but Zeus treats the theft as a direct challenge to divine authority.
Zeus responds by ordering the gods to make Pandora, the first woman in Hesiod’s narrative. Each god contributes something to her appearance or character, and Hermes gives her a deceptive nature. Zeus then sends her to Epimetheus, Prometheus’s brother, carrying the famous sealed container.
Some later versions make Pandora’s curiosity the central cause of the disaster. Hesiod’s earlier story instead frames the episode as Zeus’s retaliation for Prometheus’s actions and the arrival of suffering among humans.
