In the original Pokémon games, which fictional region contains the first adventure?

The story behind the answer

Kanto is the fictional region containing the first Pokémon adventure.

Pokémon Red, Green, Blue, and Yellow take place primarily in Kanto, where players begin in Pallet Town and travel between cities, routes, caves, and seas. The region is based partly on Japan’s real Kantō region.

Kanto contains eight Pokémon Gyms and the Pokémon League, giving the original games their main progression structure. Players also encounter Team Rocket and work toward completing the first Pokédex.

Kanto is sometimes confused with Johto because the two regions are connected in Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal. In those games, players can return to Kanto after completing the Johto storyline, making it a major return location.
