In the Noah’s Ark story, who was Noah’s father?
Answer
Lamech
Answer
Lamech
In the Noah’s Ark story, Noah’s father was Lamech.
Genesis 5:28–29 introduces Lamech as the father of Noah. Lamech named his son Noah, explaining the name with a hope that Noah would bring relief from the difficult work associated with the cursed ground. This genealogy places Noah in the line of Seth, tracing a family history from Adam through several generations.
Lamech in Noah’s genealogy is distinct from another Lamech mentioned earlier in Genesis. That earlier Lamech belongs to Cain’s line and is associated with Adah, Zillah, Jabal, Jubal, and Tubal-cain. The two men share a name but are different biblical figures.
Noah later becomes the central human figure in the flood narrative, with his wife, three sons, and their wives entering the ark. His sons are named Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
