In the Noah’s Ark story, how long was the ark according to Genesis?
Answer
300 cubits
Answer
300 cubits
In the Noah’s Ark story, Genesis says the ark was 300 cubits long.
Genesis 6:15 gives three dimensions: 300 cubits in length, 50 cubits in width, and 30 cubits in height. A cubit was an ancient unit commonly related to the length of a forearm, but its exact value varied by culture and period. For that reason, converting the ark’s dimensions into modern metres produces estimates rather than one universally certain measurement.
Using a common cubit of about 45 centimetres, the ark would have been roughly 135 metres long, 23 metres wide, and 14 metres high. Some reconstructions use a longer cubit and therefore produce larger figures.
The biblical text presents the ark as a large rectangular vessel with three decks. These dimensions are part of the Genesis account and should not be confused with measurements claimed for modern replica projects.
