In the myth of Pandora, Prometheus was her brother-in-law and the god-associated Titan of stolen fire.
Prometheus and Epimetheus are brothers in Greek mythology. Pandora marries Epimetheus, so Prometheus becomes her brother-in-law. This family connection places the jar episode within the larger conflict between Prometheus and Zeus.
Prometheus is famous for stealing fire from the gods and giving it to humanity. In Hesiod’s telling, Zeus responds by arranging the creation of Pandora and sending her to Epimetheus. The resulting chain of events links technological progress with the arrival of suffering in the traditional myth.
Prometheus is a Titan rather than an Olympian god, although he is often described broadly as a godlike figure in modern summaries. He is not Pandora’s husband: that role belongs to Epimetheus. Hephaestus, meanwhile, fashions Pandora, and Hermes contributes traits to her character.
