In the myth of Pandora, which Titan received fire from the gods and gave it to humans?

The story behind the answer

In the myth of Pandora, Prometheus received fire from the gods and gave it to humans.

Prometheus is a Titan who supports humanity in several Greek myths. In the best-known version, he steals fire from Olympus and gives it to humans, enabling cooking, craft, metalworking, and other technologies. Zeus punishes him severely, but the fire theft also becomes the immediate background to Pandora’s creation.

Hesiod presents Pandora as part of Zeus’s retaliation against both Prometheus and humanity. Zeus has the gods create and equip Pandora, then sends her to Prometheus’s brother Epimetheus. This links two major mythic episodes: the gift of fire and the arrival of suffering.

Prometheus and Epimetheus are easy to confuse because they are brothers and both appear in the Pandora story. Their names form a deliberate contrast in Greek interpretation: Prometheus is associated with forethought, while Epimetheus is associated with afterthought. Pandora marries Epimetheus, not Prometheus.
