In the myth of Pandora, Prometheus gave humanity the stolen gift of fire.
Prometheus is a Titan who supported humankind in its conflict with Zeus. In the best-known version, he took fire from the gods and brought it to humans, enabling cooking, warmth, metalworking, and craft. Zeus punished him severely, and Pandora’s creation followed as part of the punishment imposed on humanity.
Prometheus and Pandora are therefore linked in Greek mythology, although their stories are not identical. Prometheus is associated with foresight and rebellion, while his brother Epimetheus is associated with hindsight and accepts Pandora. The fire episode appears in several ancient traditions, and details vary between authors. A frequent mix-up is identifying Epimetheus as the fire-bringer because he is Pandora’s husband; the myth consistently gives that role to Prometheus.
