In the Monopoly board game, players roll two dice for a normal move. The sum of the dice determines how many spaces the token advances around the board.
The two-dice system also creates the game’s rule for doubles. When both dice show the same number, the player moves normally and then rolls again. Rolling doubles three times in succession sends that player directly to Jail instead of allowing the third move to continue.
The standard game uses ordinary six-sided dice, so a normal roll can total from 2 through 12. Special cards or variant editions may affect movement, but they do not change the basic two-dice mechanism of the classic board game.
