In the How to Train Your Dragon film trilogy, who directed all three films?

Dean DeBlois directed all three films in the How to Train Your Dragon animated trilogy.

DeBlois co-directed the original 2010 film with Chris Sanders, then directed How to Train Your Dragon 2 and How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World on his own. His continued leadership helped give the trilogy a consistent visual and emotional direction.

Chris Sanders remained closely associated with the first film, which is why viewers sometimes name him as the director of the entire trilogy. Sanders co-directed the first movie but did not direct the two sequels.

DeBlois also wrote the screenplay for the second and third films. The trilogy follows Hiccup’s development from an uncertain teenager into a leader who must decide how humans and dragons can coexist safely.
