In the Harry Potter books, which Hogwarts house does Harry Potter join?
Answer
Gryffindor
Answer
Gryffindor
Harry Potter joins Gryffindor in the Harry Potter books.
The Sorting Hat places Harry in Gryffindor during the first book, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. The ceremony takes place shortly after the first-year students arrive at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Harry privately hopes not to be placed in Slytherin, partly because Draco Malfoy has been sorted there and partly because the house has a reputation for producing dark wizards.
Gryffindor is one of Hogwarts’ four houses, alongside Slytherin, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff. It was founded by Godric Gryffindor and is associated with courage, bravery and daring. Harry’s closest friends, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, are also sorted into Gryffindor.
Some readers confuse Harry’s house with Slytherin because the Sorting Hat considers placing him there. It ultimately accepts Harry’s preference and announces Gryffindor, beginning his long association with the house’s students, teachers and Quidditch team.
