In the Greek story of Pandora, who became her husband despite his brother’s warning?

The story behind the answer

In the Greek story of Pandora, Epimetheus became her husband despite his brother Prometheus’s warning. Epimetheus was a Titan and the brother of Prometheus, whose name is commonly interpreted as “afterthought.”

Prometheus warned Epimetheus not to accept gifts from Zeus. Epimetheus nevertheless welcomed Pandora, who had been sent as part of Zeus’s punishment of humanity. The episode illustrates the contrast between the brothers: Prometheus is associated with forethought, while Epimetheus acts and reflects afterward.

Pandora’s marriage to Epimetheus is important because it places her directly among humans and Titans before the container is opened. Their union is also connected with later Greek genealogies.

In some traditions, Pandora and Epimetheus are linked to Pyrrha, who with Deucalion survives the great flood. Prometheus is Pandora’s brother-in-law in the myth, not her husband.
