In the Greek myth of Pandora’s Box, whom did Pandora marry after Zeus sent her to Epimetheus?

The story behind the answer

In the Greek myth of Pandora’s Box, Pandora married Epimetheus after Zeus sent her to him.

Epimetheus was a Titan and the brother of Prometheus. His name is commonly interpreted as “afterthought,” contrasting with Prometheus, whose name is associated with forethought. That contrast supports the story’s moral structure: Epimetheus accepts Pandora even though Prometheus had warned him not to receive gifts from Zeus.

Pandora’s arrival is presented as part of Zeus’s punishment after Prometheus’s theft of fire for humanity. She is not sent to Prometheus himself. Instead, Zeus’s messenger Hermes brings her to Epimetheus, who accepts the beautiful divine gift and takes her as his wife.

Later traditions connect Pandora and Epimetheus with a daughter named Pyrrha, who survives the great flood with Deucalion in some Greek mythic genealogies. That flood story is separate from the jar episode, although later writers sometimes combine the traditions.
