In the Greek myth connected with Pandora’s box, Prometheus stole fire from the gods for humanity.
Prometheus is a Titan who appears in Greek mythology as a benefactor of humankind. In Hesiod’s account, he deceives Zeus during a sacrifice and later takes fire, hiding it in a fennel stalk so people can use it. Fire represents technology, cooking, craft, and civilization.
Zeus responds by withholding fire and then by arranging the creation of Pandora, whose jar releases troubles into the human world. This links the Prometheus story directly to the Pandora tradition, although the two episodes are told separately in Hesiod’s works.
The myth is sometimes simplified as Prometheus stealing “knowledge,” but the specific gift in the ancient story is fire. Later writers expanded Prometheus into a symbol of rebellion, creativity, and human progress.
